According to Robertas Matusevičius, Product Group Manager at Tegra State, when choosing waterproofing materials, it is important to consider not only water protection but also the conditions it will have to withstand.
“If the waterproofing is used outdoors – on a terrace, balcony, or roof – it must withstand rain, frost and constant structural movement. Therefore, the coating’s elasticity, resistance to temperature changes, and durability are crucial,” says R. Matusevičius.
Once fully cured, FOME FLEX HYDRO GUARD is resistant to UV rays, cold, and chemical exposure, and becomes rain-resistant just 3 hours after the application. The coating retains its properties in temperatures ranging from –40 °C to +80 °C.
The Most Common Mistakes Become Obvious Only Later
According to R. Matusevičius, waterproofing problems are usually not noticed right away – they are often caused by improperly selected materials or by skipping important steps in the process.
“Sometimes, to save money, a waterproofing layer is not installed at all. However, even if it is installed, problems can arise if the coating isn’t flexible enough or isn’t suited for outdoor conditions. In such cases, over time, it can crack and lose its properties,” explains the specialist.
He adds that the most vulnerable areas are usually various joints, corners or pipe penetrations – this is where leaks first occur.
“Simply applying a waterproofing coating in such areas is not always sufficient. It is additionally recommended to use special tapes, corners or sleeves,” says R. Matusevičius.
Suitable for Various Surfaces and Tasks
FOME FLEX HYDRO GUARD offers excellent adhesion to a wide range of surfaces – concrete, ceramic tiles, glass, wood, polyester and various metals. R. Matusevičius notes that the product adheres well not only to new surfaces but also to old or damp ones, and in many cases can be used without additional priming. Although waterproofing is most commonly associated with balconies or terraces, the product’s applications are much broader – it is suitable for waterproofing flat roofs and basements, sealing leaks and cracks, protecting various joints and wooden structures.
